We recommend you to join the Bible study at your local church or have a personal devotional time to get a deeper meditation and receive creative inspiration from God. The film (and Michael Crichton’s novel) is an example of the horrors unleashed when science is unmoored from a transcendent standard. It symbolized the birth or beginning of the church. We should understand the true meaning of the Holy Spirit and how it helps us to further our lives as disciples of Jesus Christ. Pentecost had significant meaning to the church then as it still does today. But the Holy Spirit came just as Jesus promised, as a guide in faith and love. The Holy Spirit is something very clearly mentioned in scripture but difficult to describe because we cannot see it physically with our eyes. We cannot see wind itself, but we hear the sound. Luke tried to describe the Holy Spirit as a rushing wind and fire. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire. It is a Holy Day and is described in Leviticus 23:15-22. Today, we recognize this day as Pentecost, which is the Greek name for it. The Feast of Weeks of the firstfruits of the wheat harvest (Exodus 34: 22) is represented in the later harvest after the early barley harvest. After Jesus’ death, resurrection, and ascension, the Holy Spirit came down to the disciples and those that were gathered. Fifty Days LaterThe Feast of Weeks or Harvest. Pentecost celebrates the harvest of righteousness that is in Christ. When fully understood, Pentecost helps to reveal the entire plan of God for mankind. Yet, there is more to Pentecost than that. “When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken.” -Acts 2:6 In a sense, Pentecost represents the birth of the New Testament Church, for it is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that makes one a Christian and a member of the Church (Acts 2:1-4, Romans 8:9-11).
